case study: website redesign for a non-profit

Transforming Spero Stuttering's Website

Spero Stuttering, Inc., a non-profit organization advocating for the stuttering community, was connected with me through a friend’s referral for a website redesign. Their goal? An updated, organized website that's easy to navigate and use for their community to find resources and speech-language therapists.

I collaborated closely with their co-founder to design a website that serves as a comprehensive resource library, offering a seamless and user-friendly experience for individuals seeking support and resources for stuttering.

Website Redesign Challenges

Unorganized Website Structure

The old website had lots of valuable information, but it wasn’t well-organized, making it hard for visitors to find what they were looking for.

Redirecting to External Links

Visitors were redirected to a different website for the therapist directory. The cofounder wanted everything in one place, with their own system to manage the directory.

Low Search Engine Visibility

Most of the website’s text was part of images, which made it hard for search engines like Google to understand and rank the site.

How I Solved It

Improved Information Architecture

Through card sorting, I reorganized the content to make it user-friendly and intuitive. By grouping related information and creating a clear navigation menu, visitors can now easily find what they need without frustration.

Integrated Therapist Directory

I integrated their existing Airtable grid with the Webflow CMS using a Zapier integration. This setup ensures the therapist directory stays up-to-date seamlessly, allowing visitors to browse therapists directly on the site while maintaining the founder's streamlined workflow.

Improving SEO and Accessibility

I replaced image-based text with proper HTML content, optimized it with keywords relevant to their services, and incorporated alt tags and proper text hierarchy for accessibility. These updates improved the site's search engine visibility and ensured a more inclusive experience, making it easier for potential clients to find and navigate Spero Stuttering online.

Impact and Feedback

The redesigned Spero Stuttering website has been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback. The website now reflects Spero’s passionate mission while providing a professional and efficient platform for users.

Enhanced Usability

Visitors can now navigate the site effortlessly, finding resources and contacting therapists with ease.

Streamlined Directory Management

The new CMS integration allows for automated updates to the therapist database, making management more efficient and effortless.

Improved Online Credibility

The polished and optimized website highlights Spero Stuttering's expertise and commitment, creating trust and confidence with their audience.
